I’m not against Chinese people working in any position in Canada (that would put my own wife out of work), but how naive are the people in charge? The simple question to ask yourself: are any Canadians working in any Chinese government institutions? Not a chance in a million years.
While this was going on, we famously had two Canadian guys named Michael being held as bargaining chips in China, guilty of no crimes whatsoever. The people in charge claimed they didn’t know that the CCP was operating like this… really? We’ve known for years that China has a national policy of stealing information and IP. When COVID happened, China canceled every VISA and stopped granting new ones to this day (I know because mine was canceled). When COVID appeared around Chinese New Year in 2020, people were allowed to flee the country without a second thought (my in-laws were in China and were able to leave with no problem) - very different than SARS if anybody can remember. Millions of people fled Wuhan… how many bad faith realities would one need to witness to think, hey, maybe be cautious about who you hire at our biolabs.
