Quinoa flour or powder? Is this something that can be made from “normal” quinoa, or is readymade in flour or powder form?

Thanks so much for this recipe!

Making quinoa powder at home is simple and allows you to ensure its quality. Here’s how you can do it:
Ingredients and Equipment

  • Ingredients: Raw quinoa seeds
  • Equipment:
A high-speed blender, coffee grinder, or food processor
  • Fine-mesh sieve or sifter
  • Baking sheet (optional)

Step-by-Step Process********1. Rinse the Quinoa

  • Place the quinoa in a fine-mesh sieve.
  • Rinse thoroughly under cold running water to remove the natural coating called saponin, which can make quinoa taste bitter.

2. Dry the Quinoa

  • Spread the rinsed quinoa on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  • Let it air dry completely for a few hours, or speed up the process by toasting it.

3. Optional: Toast the Quinoa

  • Toasting enhances the nutty flavor of quinoa.
  • Preheat a skillet or pan over medium heat.
  • Add the dried quinoa and stir constantly for about 5–7 minutes until it becomes golden and aromatic.

4. Grind the Quinoa

  • Place the quinoa in a high-speed blender, coffee grinder, or food processor.
  • Grind in batches if necessary, to avoid overloading the machine.
  • Process until the quinoa reaches a fine, powdery consistency.

5. Sift the Quinoa Powder

  • Use a fine-mesh sieve or sifter to separate the fine powder from any remaining coarse grains.
  • Regrind the larger pieces if desired.

6. Store the Powder

  • Transfer the quinoa powder to an airtight container.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place for up to 2 months, or in the refrigerator for extended shelf life.

Tips

  • Use white quinoa for a milder flavor, or red/black quinoa for a more robust taste.
  • Ensure the quinoa is completely dry before grinding to prevent clumping or spoilage.
  • For baking, mix quinoa powder with other flours to improve texture and flavor.

hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:
