🎀 Introducing... Type 1 Diabetes Barbie! 💉🍭

(Yes, really. And no, it’s not satire — except it kind of is.)

Inspired by the brilliantly biting article by Jenna McCarthy — “Introducing Type 1 Diabetes Barbie” — Introducing Type 1 Diabetes Barbie* - by Jenna McCarthy?

We just had to share this gem with the IMA community.

Barbie’s latest makeover includes:

  • A glucometer, because accessorizing is so important.
  • Insulin pens, for when pink pumps just aren’t enough.
  • And the ever-stylish medical alert bracelet, now in glitter rose gold!

Coming soon to your local toy aisle:

  • Long COVID Ken – still recovering from his last booster.
  • Myocarditis Midge – looks fine, but no sudden movements.
  • Boosted Skipper – she’s glowing… with spike proteins.

:brain: Jenna’s piece is as hilarious as it is sobering — a reminder of how easily chronic conditions and tech wearables are being packaged and normalized for kids.

:speech_balloon: What do you think — Awareness? Absurdity? A little of both?

Drop your thoughts (and snarky Barbie spinoffs) below :backhand_index_pointing_down:

This reminds me of the comedian Don Rickles. Rickles believed humor came from exposing the raw, awkward, and sometimes painful truths we all carry. He didn’t shy away from discomfort; he leaned into it, using laughter as a kind of release valve.

“I don’t really tell a joke, I react to situations. The whole thing is just looking at somebody and showing all our weaknesses and exaggerating them, and that’s how it becomes funny.” - Don Rickles

So, here’s a toast to using humor as a coping mechanism! :wine_glass:

Yes, I think we all need hats saying “Let’s Make Humor Great Again”
:slightly_smiling_face:

And I am going to look for Don Rickles - I dont know him. Thanks

I remember wanting to get a doll for my oldest daughter who lost an eye to cancer when she was 2 years old. I was told a doll with a prosthetic eye couldn’t be made because it was a choking hazard (I believed them because my kid swallowed her prosthetic once and I had to dig through poo for four days to find it).

Sadly, it took me over 20 years to realize that most of my kids’ health problems likely came from the toxins I allowed to be be injected into them since birth (I didn’t trust my gut and paid heavily for it with their health and my own).

My youngest son will forever be 2 months old because of encephalitis from the shots he got at that age. It is a miracle he survived and he is the only one of my children who will never take another “vaccine” as long as I am alive and able to refuse them on his behalf.

I grieve for all the children who will suffer chronic ill health and shortened lifespans (especially those who didn’t want to listen to their “crazy” mothers and took the Covid shots as adults) because we parents were ignorant and trusted the physicians and nurses who lied to us for money.

#NeverAgain #StopTheShots

So many of us have regrets about the decisions we made when we still believed that all doctors were very knowledgeable about all things related to our health and that pharma would never knowingly cause our children harm. I am so sorry for the harms caused to your family.
