How States Are Becoming the Front Line for Medical Freedom?

Last night’s update focused on the Medical Freedom Act Coalition…a growing statewide movement pushing back against medical mandates, restoring informed consent, and protecting the doctor–patient relationship.

States from Idaho to South Carolina and beyond are now introducing legislation inspired by Idaho’s Medical Freedom Act as a model.

“Basically we got this landmark legislation passed, which protects the right of all Idahoans to make their own medical choices free of any kind of coercion or penalty for those choices. So no public or private entity can force you to take a medical intervention in order to live a normal life.”

This isn’t just talk, it’s state-level action with bills already moving through committees, and coalition members working with grassroots advocates and lawmakers to expand these protections nationwide.

We have a situation where Congress refuses to act on several issues, medical freedom among them. Given how compromised by the pharmaceutical industry they are, I shudder at what a mess they’d make of it. In the absence of a responsible Federal government, the states are our only recourse. Florida has done some interesting and encouraging things regarding healthcare, too. As I say, it’s more than just healthcare. Wyoming is considering something it calls the GRANITE act*, to prevent other countries from exerting pressure to censor on-line speech by Americans. It seems to me me have more leverage as individuals to pressure states to act on our behalf on a variety of issues. You may even see support grow for the Convention of States to make changes in our Constitution in favor of things like term limits and balanced budgets.
