How long does Ivermectin last? In 2021, we bought some Ivermectin Ivecop-12 from India and I still have some left. Does the strength diminish over time? If so, what would the strength of these 12mg tablets be in 2025? Hope someone can help me with this question.
Additional note: The Ivermectin I have, which was bought in May 2021, says it’s good until April 2024. Somewhere I read that it is still good, but the strength has diminished. I’m wondering if I can still take the ivermectin, and if the strength has diminished, perhaps I need to take two 12mg pills instead of one. Any advice?
A lot depends on the conditions in which it is being stored. If you have it in a drawer or a hot area the chemicals will deteriorate to a certain extent over time. How much deterioration and time is unknown because I don’t believe anyone has actually done a study to find out. However, in general, if you have been storing them in a refrigerator or freezer you will slow down the deterioration process considerably. And if you stored them in a vacuum as well as cold, you will extend their useful life as well even longer. Again since there are no studies the exact amount of preservation is unknown. I would imagine that potency will reduce to a certain degree over time probably on a logarithmic scale. Under ideal conditions you can probably store the pills for up to 10 years with just a slight drop in potency, perhaps 10 to 20 percent. So I would say don’t worry too much about how effective they may be for quite awhile if you are storing them for long term use. I am not a pharmacist or chemist, so consider this an opinion rather than professional advice.
I’m not a scientist. I think it has a long shelf life. Start using it and when it’s gone get a fresh supply. Prphylactic dose is 12 mg per week. I haven’t read any reports about it breaking down within a year or 2. I buy 12 mg for the family and 3 mg, which I cut in half, for the dog.
Strictly humor: I’ve been with the same GP for (54) years - really great doctor. For all of that time (that he continued to get kickbacks on fresh scripts), he was strict about “getting rid of them once out-dated per the label”. When Covid hit and doctors were threatened in NY by our “Caligula” Governor re: any treatment but the shot and I informed him I was going to self-treat with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin but the Z-pack I had was a year out of date, he said, “Don’t pay any attention to those drug dates - if it hasn’t changed color or structure it’s likely fine!”
I agree with the writer that discussed the effects of “storage” and also use the refrigerator but would add that a chemist once told me that not all drugs take well to being frozen.
Ivermectin typically stays in the body for about 12 to 14 days, but its effectiveness usually lasts for a few days to a week, depending on the condition being treated. At Generic Medicine, we recommend following your doctor’s guidance for dosage and treatment duration, as it can vary based on individual health needs and the condition being treated:
