DMSO use after knee replacement

Does anyone have any info on topical use of DMSO on artificial joint. A friend has a twenty year old knee replacement that she is using topical dmso on (helped the pain and inflammation tremendously) but I wondered about the metal potentially reacting to the solvent. She has RA so pain and inflammation in that joint not necessarily due the implant.

I can’t seem to find any research or information on this topic.

Thank you in advance for any and all guidance!

That discussion seems a bit “anecdotal” and inconclusive, but it does point to the table at

which lists DMSO on page 11, as “acceptable” for all metals listed, which are

Corrosion resistant ferrous-------------------

Stainless Steel

Hastelloy

Inconel

Elgiloy

Carbon Steel

Non-ferrous----------------

Aluminum

Titanium

Brass

Aluminum Bronze

Probably most of those are irrelevant to implants. But whether to bet your life/health on that table, given the unknown of how the data was developed, is another question.

I have a partial knee replacement. I do use DMSO on the knee. No issues.

Question for Bill Backus,

Bill, what benefits have you found using DMSO?

Thanks,

Tom

I have DMSO and use it on parts of my body, however I have a knee replacment & wondered the same thing…Grok says check with your doctor … But, seems to indicate it would be ok - make sure the skin is clean prior to application .. IDK I wish I knew myself…
