Ceremonial Grade Cacao

I have recently experienced ceremonial cacao. I wanted to see if anyone else has ever used it? The active ingredient is Theobromine, used as a vasodilaton, as an aid in urination, and as a heart stimulant. A ceremonial dose is at least 10 grams or more in one shot! Drink it on an empty stomach!

Why is cacao good for you from the science prospective?

Well for starters it has Theobromine, is used as a vasodilator (a blood vessel widener), as an aid in urination, and as a heart stimulant.

Benefits:

  • Healthy Heart. Research suggests theobromine may help protect the heart in several ways
  • Increased Energy.
  • Improved Cognitive Function (at least temporarily)
  • Healthy Teeth.
  • Good Mood.
  • Cough Suppressant.
  • Healthy Respiratory System.
  • Reduced Inflammation.

Wow. This is interesting. I’m going to do a bit digging into it & let you know.

yeah!

What is ceremonial grade cacao? Never heard of it before.

My ND recommended Coco-moringa, which has cacao, as a hot chocolate substitute. It doesn’t taste quite as good as Swiss Miss but is supposed to be safe for diabetics.

Great topic :+1:. Thanks Kristina.

Just informative: Theobromine is in all chocolate (except in white off course). Milk chocolate: 150-200 mg/100 gr. Dark chocolate: 2 a 5x as much.

It’s the element why dogs can not have chocolate . It is toxic for them when they eat more then 2 gr/kg body weight.

Breastfeeding mothers best avoid eating large amounts of chocolate because the theobromine can make the baby irritable and can disturb the baby’s sleep.

I’ve never heard of or tried ceremonial cacao. I would love to know more about it.

I use cacao to make yummy bean brownie muffins.

Navitas cacao has it. I have unsweetened cacao in my morning coffee every day with some cinnamon, collagen, sometimes powdered vanilla and Supersweet from Trim Healthy Mama. It is definitely a ceremony for me.

Cacao has been used by South American indigenous people for thousands of years. It is well studied. It is the highest antioxidant food in the world. It is loaded with iron, magnesium, and other great things. And it is chocolate! But not like a hershey bar. You need to use organic cold processed cacao made from the cacao beans in the Andes mountains. I use Viva Naturals, but others may be ok. You need to look at Cadmium levels and if they have tested their products. I use it in smoothies, baking, etc. You can take shots of it as very safe, but stimulating as the theobromine is like using caffeine. Once you heat it, as in hot chocolate, you destroy some of the antioxidants. It is God’s gift to us.

From the scientific perspective I’m aware of positive impacts on cognition when taken regularly.

I’m wondering if the 70% to 80% cacao chocolate bars I consume would have the same relative benefit or if the sugar content negates the positive benefits. My consumption from time to time is pretty small like 1/4 ounce so I doubt it has much impact either way. 10 grams is about 1/3 ounce so it is in the ballpark. Are you consuming daily? I don’t drink coffee and this seems like it would be a comparable substitute. But I don’t partake in any substance that has a psychoactive component to any degree.
