Hi @vegandan and all - just had a conversation in the editorial Team meeting with Kelly B, and she reminded me that she had mentioned before that these are the times when a Patient Advocate, who knows how to navigate the system, and who can ‘come back’ to the doctors who choose not to follow Dr. Marik’s Sepsis Protocol, to insist, in the most professional way possible for the patient.
Apparently this happens often with the Sepsis protocol. Dr. Marik says, “a lot of them won’t do my protocol.” And it may be that the hospital’s insurance just doesn’t cover the protocol so they can’t use it.
In that case the hard decisions need to be made. You almost have to go outside of the hospital system to get the treatment you know is best. This is the coalface where the fight unfortunately finds itself. In this tough space, a Patient Advocate is probably the way to go.
